Programme-series on Environmental Awareness

Care Earth Trust is organising a series of one-day programmes / workshops in selected schools of northern districts of Tamilnadu as part of the ‘Schools as Ecostewards’ programme funded Department of Environment (Tamilnadu). The programme consists of slide-show presentation, awareness movie screening, quiz competitions and lectures followed by interactive sessions; thereby creating awareness about environment and ecology among school children, which is the primary objective of the programme. The medium of instruction is Tamil so as to have a better outreach to the students.

Initially the sessions were started in Tiruvallur District in the month of October 2015 and the schools chosen were located in rural areas such as Kilaambakkam, Pothathoorpettai, Paandaravedu, Keechailam, Atthipattu, Gummidipoondi, Vilaappakkam, Aarani, Kavarapettai, Redhills, Porur, and Tiruvallur. Now the programme have covered almost 20 schools and it is ongoing. The students were delighted after the presentations and committed themselves to non-use of plastics after interacting with the resource persons from Care Earth. More programmes are planned for the next month in various schools, in various districts around Chennai as part of the government initiative in creating awareness programmes in corporation schools which are members of National Green Corps Programme.
